Artist Bio
Paulina Constancia is a Filipino-Canadian naïf textile and mixed media artist, storyteller, and community arts facilitator based in Vancouver. Born in Cebu, Philippines, she draws inspiration from her cultural heritage, immigrant experience, and everyday encounters, weaving memories, traditions, and joys into vibrant works that celebrate resilience, belonging, and connection. Her practice is rooted in humor, empathy, and a childlike perspective, where metaphor and allegory are constants—playful details often open into deeper explorations of life’s themes. Working with textiles, paint, stitching, and found materials, Paulina transforms the ordinary into symbolic narratives that reveal both personal and collective stories. Smiling suns, curious figures, and animal companions frequently appear in her art, carrying with them metaphors of hope, community, and the human journey. Paulina has exhibited her work widely across Asia, Europe, and North America, including in the Philippines, Japan, Greece, Slovenia, Poland, the Netherlands, Mexico, and Canada. Her art is part of permanent public and private collections, including the Musée international d'art naïf de Magog (Canada), Galerija likovnih samorastnikov Trebnje (Slovenia), Telus Spark Science Centre (Calgary), BC Children’s Hospital (Vancouver), and Alberta Children’s Hospital (Calgary). As a community arts facilitator, she has led expressive textile and storytelling workshops for immigrants, refugees, survivors, and diverse communities. For Paulina, art is both a deeply personal practice and a bridge for connection—an invitation to imagine, to heal, and to celebrate our shared humanity.
