Artist Bio
My artistic journey began in the mid-1970s as a student and model at the Ontario College of Art. This formative period included a transformative year studying in Florence, Italy, which would later play a significant role in my career. Upon graduating, I pursued my passion for education, earning my teaching credentials and dedicating the next 30 years to teaching Special Education, English, and Visual Art in Toronto and California. My commitment to art education extended beyond the classroom when I served as the Manager of Programs at the esteemed McMichael Canadian Art Collection. Throughout my teaching career, I remained devoted to my personal artistic practice, producing and exhibiting works in drawing, painting, and printmaking. My pieces have been showcased in galleries across Toronto and California, as well as in Cuba, where I participated in an enriching artist exchange program over several years. In 2020, I embarked on a new chapter, retiring from teaching and returning to my artistic roots in Florence, Italy. I restored a property along the Sieve River, transforming it into my dream studio and gallery space. This picturesque setting served as the backdrop for my retrospective exhibition in 2024, marking a significant milestone in my artistic career. Today, I continue to create and collaborate from my Italian studio, fostering connections with fellow artists and further developing my practice. My work reflects a lifetime of diverse experiences, blending North American and European influences with a deep appreciation for artistic community and cultural exchange. I look forward to continuing to share my art and build my practice in Italy, working alongside other like-minded artists in this inspiring environment.
