Artist Bio
Holly Atkinson is a Canadian sculptor whose work explores the intersection of figurative presence and abstract form through the enduring materials of bronze and ceramic. Born in Orillia, Ontario, she developed a deep appreciation for the expressive potential of form, gesture, and texture at an early age. She later earned her BA in Art Education, grounding her practice in both technical understanding and the ability to communicate visually through material language. Atkinson continued her artistic development in Paris, France, where she studied under the acclaimed painter Mac-Avoy. This period profoundly shaped her approach to composition, the human figure, and the emotional resonance embedded in line and structure. Her parallel careers as a graphic artist and muralist further refined her sensitivity to balance, scale, and spatial rhythm, qualities that continue to inform her sculptural work. With more than thirty years of experience working in a bronze casting foundry, Atkinson brings rare technical insight to her sculptural practice. Her long relationship with metal is evident in the weight, permanence, and surface complexity of her bronze pieces, while her ceramic works reveal a contrasting intimacy and warmth—forms shaped by hand, fire, and the organic qualities of clay. Atkinson’s sculptures have been exhibited internationally, including in Iceland, South Africa, the United States, and throughout Europe. Across all mediums, her work reflects a commitment to exploring the quiet emotional landscapes held within form, inviting viewers into a space where movement, memory, and material presence converge.
