Iwona Kmiec

Artist Bio

Iwona Kmiec is a visual artist based in Thornhill, Ontario. She works in different media, but a very special place in her practice belongs to lyrical abstractions created mainly in acrylics. She likes to tell stories expressing herself through line, geometric symbols, free marks, and colour. Additionally, by blending various materials, such as canvas, wood, paper and stainless steel wire, Iwona surveys new technologies with organic matter. Her inspiration comes from nature and personal experience. By using sense of smell as a metaphor, she explores human connections, family life and contribution of women in creating better world, honouring their sacrifice and resilience. Iwona’s educational journey includes an MFA in Interior Design from Gdansk’s Fine Arts Academy, Poland, and a Diploma in Environmental Design from OCA, (now OCADU) in Toronto but her dedication on learning about herself, the art world and human nature, continues. Iwona’s work has been featured in exhibits and galleries in Toronto and GTA, and her work can be found in private collections in Canada, the USA, Poland & the UK.
