Artist Bio
Meral is a Watercolour Artist and instructor. She has attended the watercolour painting program at the New York Arts Academy and completed many courses and workshops with distinguished artists. Meral’s interest in the visual arts is also reflected in her dedication to supporting several art associations and galleries. She is a Board member of the Women’s Art Association of Canada, past president of the Board of Trustees of the Robert McLaughlin Gallery, and past president of the Oshawa Art Association. “I am passionate about watercolour. I love the transparency and the glow that shows on paper. But, for me, the fascinating thing about watercolour painting is its surprises; the colour moves on its own; it drips down wherever it likes or puddles anywhere.” My art inspiration and ideas primarily come from nature—trees, flowers, rocks, winter scenes, and beaches. The freedom to reflect on what I see in nature into what I imagine pleases me greatly. If I paint two paintings, one will be of birch trees… those white, fascinating, forever-peeling birch trees enchant me.
