Artist Bio
Sharon MacLennan studied at Queen’s University in Kingston and graduated from OCA in Toronto. With the support of the Agnes Etherington Art Gallery’s Curator, Frances K. Smith, she completed a series of commissioned portraits for Queen’s which led to portrait commissions across Canada and in Europe in both public and private collections. In the early 80s she moved to New York to the Art Students League, to study with Knox Martin, Robert Beverley Hale and Robert Philipp an experience which shaped the years that followed. She continued painting commissioned portraits but had the added platform to dive into abstract expressionism which she continues to explore today.
