Deniz is a mixed-media artist who loves to tell her stories in three dimensions. Born in the sunny coastal city Izmir known as the “Pearl of the Agean”, she earned her degree in engineering & economics and embarked on a professional career in international trade which took her to many other cities and cultures influenced by the sea. She is a natural storyteller who found mixed media art twelve years ago to express her creative side and never looked back.
For Deniz, art begins with prompts from nature – objects found along the sea and lake shores, forests, fields and meadows. As she gathers these objects, she visualizes connections that might exist with the viewer or how each object might be related to another. Her works are a delicate balance of small treasures that are fitted to tell the story. She loves giving new life to old and once loved objects – she is fascinated by the way their history adds to the detail and uniqueness of each piece.
A proud member of the Women’s Art Association of Canada, Deniz has held the Chair of the Galleries and Exhibitions Committee and has co-curated more than 20 art shows since becoming a member in 2009.
