Thursday February 17—Lyn Carter
Clothing is Sculpture
“I seem to be fixated on forms that are possible with cloth as a constructed skin. It pleases me to make “women’s work” sculpture. There is an implied collision of genders embodied in that statement that appeals to me.”
Her focus on textiles has led to exhibitions in China at the 3rd Guangzhou Triennial, Guangdong Museum of Art, and the Hangzhou Triennial of Fiber Art 2016, Zhejiang Art Museum (Hangzhou, China). A solo exhibit Lyn Carter: 11th Line, was organized by and exhibited at the Textile Museum of Canada (Toronto ON) in 2015/16. Composed of site-specific sculptures, drawings and video, it toured to the Peterborough Art Gallery in 2017 and the Musée d’art de Joliette in 2018. Carter holds a degree from OCAD in Textile Design and an MFA in Sculpture from York U.
