Open Call: True Colours
The Women’s Art Association of Canada (WAAC) invites LGBTQ2S+ artists based in Canada from all backgrounds and disciplines to submit their work for our 3rd Annual Uptown Pride art exhibition titled, True Colours. The exhibition will run from Thursday, June 20, to Saturday, June 29, 2024, in WAAC’s Dignam Gallery at 23 Prince Arthur Ave. in Toronto, Ontario.
This exhibition aims to showcase the diverse experiences, identities, and narratives within the LGBTQ2S+ community through art. From personal reflections to social commentary, True Colours seeks to amplify the voices and perspectives of LGBTQ2S+ individuals in all their complexity and nuance. We welcome submissions in all mediums, including painting, photography, sculpture, mixed media, digital art, and more.
Artists are encouraged to explore themes such as but not limited to; identity, love, resilience, community, and the intersectionality of LGBTQ2S+ experiences. Submissions should authentically reflect the lived experiences of LGBTQ2S+ individuals.
Through this exhibition, we aim to celebrate the diversity and richness of LGBTQ2S+ lives while fostering understanding, empathy, and connection within and beyond the community.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
This call is exclusively open to all genders who identify as part of the LGBTQ2S+ community. Artists must be of 18 years or older, and based in Canada.
ARTWORK:
* All mediums are welcome including, but not limited to: painting, photography, sculpture, mixed media, digital art, and video.
* Artists may submit up to two works for consideration.
* Artwork dimensions are variable but cannot exceed 48” on any side (including frame). Small to medium sized works are encouraged.
* Artwork must be exhibition ready, dry, and available for sale.
* Works must be original intellectual property by the submitting artist (no appropriation).
* You will be asked to include a brief artist statement (maximum 250 words) outlining the conceptual framework and inspiration behind your artwork(s) or practice.
* Images of artwork(s) must be included in the submission, along with dimensions and medium specifications.
* Artists understand it is possible only one of their two proposed works will be selected to ensure space for all artists, exhibition flow and safety.
SALES: All artwork must be available for sale. A 20% commission applies on all sales, including work that is sold between the submission date and the installation date, plus up to two weeks after the show closes.

Non Member: $20.00
WAAC Member: Free
Payable upon submitting your application.
* Please note, submissions with unpaid hanging fee will not be considered.
* Hanging fee is non-refundable.
* Selected artists are responsible for all costs related to the shipment of their artwork to and from the gallery.
* Artists may submit only one submission form.
* Artists of selected artworks will be notified by Friday, June 14, 2024 and will be required to deliver their artwork ready for installation to the gallery by Tuesday June 18, 2024.

SELECTION RESULTS: Sunday, June 16, 2024
ARTWORK INTAKE: Tuesday, June 18, 2024 — 11:00 am to 4:00 pm ET
SHOW INSTALLATION: Wednesday, June 19, 2024
EXHIBITION RUN: Thursday, June 20, to Saturday, June 29, 2024
RECEPTION: Saturday, June 29, 2024 — 1 to 4 pm ET
ARTWORK PICK-UP: Tuesday, July 2, 2024 10 am — 1 pm ET
