The Women’s Art Association of Canada (WAAC) invites artists based in Canada to submit their artwork(s) for consideration in our upcoming group exhibition, Gathering Light. The exhibition will run from Thursday, October 24, to Saturday, November 2, 2024 in Dignam Gallery.

Gathering Light seeks to explore the many ways light interacts and impacts our world, both inside and out. Leading up to the winter season in the north, we noticeably begin to have less daylight hours with each coming day. This exhibition invites artists to consider how light—whether natural, artificial, or imagined—shapes our moods, perception of spaces, objects, and moments. This exhibition invites a wide range of interpretations, from traditional figurative/still lifes to more abstract/conceptual explorations of light and space.

Some questions to consider:

1. How does light define space, create mood, or reveal form?
2. How do you use light as a tool for revealing the beauty in everyday objects and scenes?
3. How do different qualities of light—soft, harsh, warm, or cool—affect the mood of a scene or the feeling conveyed by your artwork?
4. How can artificial light create ambiance in indoor spaces, or how does it contrast with natural light?

This exhibition will be curated to emphasize the diversity of interpretations. All mediums are welcome. Such as, but not limited to: painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, photography, mixed media, and video.
