The Women’s Art Association of Canada is pleased to preview an exciting selection of new works by Hortensia Reyes. Hortensia is an interdisciplinary artist and fashion designer. “While working on textile structures to create khipus –and ancient Andean device to record information using knots and cords–, I experienced the Andean cosmovision. The act of passing threads from one finger to another, from one hand to the other, to keep interlacing and to keep balance and harmony, all in the process of creating textile structures. To me this means reciprocity.
Responsibility in fashion relates to caring for our environment and even caring for our own human health. Alpaca has a great relationship with her environment, they are ecologically friendly animals. Using alpaca fibre made me reflect on my responsibility as a maker choosing materials that do not harm the environment, BECAUSE THERE IS NO PLANET B.“
