Artist Bio

Leslie Crabtree Savage began making art in childhood, drawing on the floor of her father’s studio. After many years in Western Canada, where she taught communications, sailed the Salish Sea and took sculpture and drawing classes, Leslie moved to Toronto in 2017 and now studies painting at artEmbassy with Martha Johnson and Steve Rose. She is also a quiltmaker with a penchant for cyanotype cotton prints. Maintaining an arts practice is the latest in her series of adventures, which include sojourns and assignments in Colombia, Lebanon and China. Leslie has a studio at Women’s Art, which has greatly helped her negotiate the pandemic.  Helping her grandson paint his guitar introduced her to hard edge colour forms, a departure from her more usual depiction of mountains and sea.
