Artist Bio
In 1959, I began learning about, and collecting, antique furniture, both English and French. Later, after developing an interest in Early Canadian antiques, I was fortunate to be able to work part-time for a dealer who specialized in Early Canadian furniture and artifacts. It was a pleasant experience, along with attending many antique furniture auctions and adding to my furniture collection.
In the 1960s, it became apparent that my calling was interior design, thus the next step was to study at the Ontario College of Art (now OCAD University). Subsequently, I established Carline Oakley Interior Design and enjoyed helping my residential clients.
From early years among my hobbies had been sewing and knitting. In the 1970s, I became interested in making quilts, initially as a way to put to use the many left-over fabrics from various interior design projects.
