WAAC Artist Christy Chor exhibits at the John B. Aird Gallery

COLLAGE 2021

This year the John B. Aird Gallery initiated their first juried online exhibition + art book featuring contemporary collage-based works. For the purposes of this project, the term, ‘contemporary’ refers to artworks—produced today. The art term ‘collage’ comes from the French Language and literally means “to glue”. For this exhibition call, ‘collage’ is understood as both the technique and the resulting work of art in which pieces of paper, photographs, fabric, and other ephemera are arranged and stuck down onto a supporting surface to create an overall work of art.

Women’s Art Association
of Canada is grateful
to the Ontario Trillium
Foundation for its support

We wish to acknowledge this land on which the Women’s Art Association of Canada operates. For thousands of years it has been the traditional land of the Huron-Wendat, the Seneca, and the Mississaugas of the Credit. Today, this meeting place is still the home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work on this land.

Since 1887
The Women’s Art Association of Canada is a diverse and inclusive non-profit arts hub offering exhibition, education and volunteer opportunities for men and women with a passion for the arts. Two historic gallery spaces on the main floor of the heritage building at 23 Prince Arthur Avenue in Toronto are open to the public: The Dignam Gallery and The Ruth Upjohn Gallery.

Each year, the Dignam Gallery hosts 4 group exhibitions open to all members, community outreach exhibitions, Signature exhibitions, scholarship exhibitions in the summer months, and the Artist-in-Residence exhibition in the fall. The Ruth Upjohn Gallery is available to members for solo or group exhibitions. Members include practicing professional artists who have been exhibiting for decades, and self-taught artists showing their work in public for the first time. All are welcome! To register for our newsletter, or to inquire about membership, please contact the office (waac@womensartofcanada.ca).
