Collagraph Printmaking Workshop with Loree Ovens
A collagraph is essentially a collage that is used as a matrix or a plate to create a print. In this two-day workshop, participants will explore collagraph printmaking using an etching press, creating textured prints without the need for acid or solvents. Oil-based water-wash-up inks will be used.
Day 1, participants will learn the technique through example prints, plates, and a demo, then create small collages that will become printing plates.
Day 2, the class will ink their plates and print using the etching press. Inks, printing rag paper, plates, some collage materials, and gel mediums will be provided.
Materials to bring: thin nitrile or plastic gloves, a full pad of 18” × 24” newsprint, old clothes or an apron, something for note-taking, and optional interesting thin textures such as lace.
