Mary Ella Dignam, Founder of Women’s Art Association of Canada (1903)

Mary Ella Dignam it should be noted worked tirelessly for women’s equal opportunities in the art world and founded the Women’s Art Association of Canada in 1857, the First International Society of Women Painters & Sculptors and was also the first head of the Department of Art in McMaster University. It is incredibly fitting then the she features in this exhibition for International Women’s Day.
